On Dead Man's Legs
Greed…theft….murder. All three flow from the largess of a large trust fund established generations ago. The trust is controlled by the mother of the family that currently enjoys the largess. But that luxury ceased when she cut them off and disappeared, hoping her family would reform its irresponsible ways. Instead, they become desperate to continue their lifestyles, very desperate, as do others who rely on the trust.
Then a woman is murdered.
Was the killer the father of the family or was it one of his three sons?
Was it a beautiful, conniving woman hell-bent on preserving her life of luxury?
Was it one or both of two country club friends discovered to have criminal records and are dependent on the trust?
All seven people had motive and opportunity.
While in hiding from her family, the mother learns of the murder and promises Hank Tower, a New York PI and ex-spy, a large reward to find the killer. Tower and his associate, an ex-NYPD sergeant, go on a hunt that takes them from the upscale haunts of Manhattan to the super rich in East Hampton, Long Island, to the posh hotels of St. Maarten and Antigua in the Caribbean.
Their search is perilous. There’s a second murder and Tower comes within an inch of being fatally stabbed. But he gradually eliminates the possibilities. Then, while still recovering from his wound, he exposes the killer in a nerve-racking confrontation with the suspects.
